WHO YOU ARE:
+ MANAGEMENT
• Proven track record managing and scheduling a team in the wine + spirits industry (either retail or restaurant); minimum of three years experience
• Experienced in creating a positive, organized, and professional workplace
+ PERSONAL
• Reliable, punctual, and detail-oriented with strong integrity
• Self-starter who thrives in a busy retail environment and has a restaurant-style hustle
• Outgoing, customer-first mindset
• Natural leader who motivates and supports the team
+ TECHNICAL
• Proficient with point-of-sale and inventory systems (LightSpeed, PROVI, Proof, etc.)
• Comfortable with spreadsheets, reporting, and light data analysis
+ KNOWLEDGE
• Advanced wine education (WSET Level 3+ or equivalent experience)
• Solid understanding of wine styles, pairings, and winemaking fundamentals
• Familiar with NY-based importers, producers, and key regions
• Experience maintaining and tracking inventory
+ RESPONSIBILITIES
• Lead and support our team of retail wine professionals
• Hire, onboard, and train new staff
• Create and manage schedules; handle time-off requests and tip reporting
• Plan and coordinate weekly in-store tastings with vendors
• Participate in tastings and assist owners with buying and product selection
• Oversee spirits ordering and vendor relations
• Process incoming deliveries; check for accuracy and quality
• Enter and price new SKUs in the POS system
• Monitor and manage inventory regularly
• Engage customers on the floor—offer pairing advice and product insights
• Handle opening and closing duties
• Maintain store appearance and merchandising standards
+ SCHEDULE & AVAILABILITY
York Cellars is open seven days a week with civilized shop hours. Evening, weekend, and some holiday shifts are unequivocally part of the role.
+ COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
• Salary: $65,000–$75,000 (commensurate with experience); with significant opportunity for growth and advancement
