Role Summary
The Shift Lead is equal parts bartender, barista, coach, problem solver, and host. Acting as the on-shift leader, this role keeps service flowing, supports and directs the team, and creates an environment where both guests and employees feel cared for. The Shift Lead reports directly to the Co-Owner and acting General Manager, Chelsey Shockley.
Shift Leadership & Hospitality
Serve as the primary point of leadership during assigned shifts.
Ensure every guest is greeted promptly and receives attentive, proactive service throughout their visit.
Assign side work, coordinate break coverage, and ensure smooth transitions throughout the shift.
Foster a positive and collaborative work environment.
Hold team members accountable to service, cleanliness, and attendance standards.
Address performance issues in the moment through coaching and clear direction.
Handle guest concerns with warmth, confidence, and good judgment.
Maintain a calm, grounded presence during busy service and unexpected situations.
Operational Excellence
Prepare coffee, cocktails, wine, beer, and food according to Saturn Road recipes and standards.
Uphold cleanliness, organization, and food safety standards.
Ensure compliance with Department of Health regulations and company policies.
Monitor prep and backstock levels throughout each shift.
Communicate inventory shortages and operational issues to management.
Ensure opening, shift change, and closing procedures are completed.
Qualifications
Previous leadership experience in specialty coffee, hospitality, restaurant, or bar environments preferred.
Demonstrated ability to lead a team in a fast-paced, customer-facing environment.
Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Ability to remain calm under pressure and make sound decisions independently.
Must be at least 21 years of age and legally eligible to serve alcoholic beverages in New York.
Possess (or obtain within 30 days of hire) a valid New York City Food Protection Certificate.
Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 40 pounds.
Compensation & Schedule
Hourly, part-time position.
Weekend availability is required. Primarily scheduled Thursday through Monday afternoons and/or evenings.
Eligible to participate in the employee tip pool.
Eligible to participate in Saturn Road's Events & Programming Bonus Program.


Compensation: $20-$23 per hour (rate based on experience)
