We are seeking a dedicated Embroidery Specialist to join General Wear Inc., a custom embroidery and apparel studio in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Every item that leaves our studio is digitized, embroidered and finished in house. The right person values precision, consistency and quality craftsmanship, and wants to keep growing their technical skills in the studio.
WHO WE ARE
We work inside the Greenpoint Manufacturing and Design Center. Since 2020 we have digitized, sampled and produced everything on our own floor for brands, restaurants, events and creative studios across New York, from 24 piece runs to 10,000 units. We run advanced multihead embroidery machines alongside a TMBP XC, a large format single head embroidery machine with a SEIT laser system. We use every weight and type of thread, and we care about clean small text, good underlay and work we are proud to put our name on.
PAY AND BENEFITS
• $23.50 to $30 per hour, set by your machine experience
• Overtime paid at time and a half when it comes up
• Up to 8 paid days off plus 6 paid holidays
• Paid, scheduled ahead event shifts at brand launches, pop ups and parties if you want them
WHAT YOU WILL DO
• Operate and maintain our multihead embroidery machines and the TMBP XC large format single head machine
• Load design files onto the machines and verify every job detail before production
• Hoop garments securely and accurately for clean, consistent embroidery
• Read work orders, check art and thread colors, and run test sew outs
• Troubleshoot machine issues and perform routine maintenance
• Inspect finished items and mark any defective product for rework before it leaves the floor
• Trim excess threads and pack completed orders
• Keep your station clean, organized and stocked, and clean up at the end of every shift
• Work with the team to meet production deadlines and quality standards
Most days you are on the machines; some days lean toward finishing and packing. You will know the plan each morning.
SCHEDULE
Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. Occasionally we work later when a project deadline requires it, with overtime paid.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
• At least one year of experience operating commercial embroidery machines (Tajima ideal; Barudan, Melco or Ricoma fine)
• A curious mindset and eagerness to learn new machines and techniques
• Strong attention to detail and quality control
• Ability to troubleshoot machine issues quickly and on your own
• Good organizational skills and a tidy work area
• Reliable, with a strong work ethic and a team oriented attitude
• Able to stand most of the day and lift boxes up to 40 lbs
WHERE THIS GOES
We are growing. Our first Embroidery Specialist is in line for Lead Operator, with training in live event setups and running the production floor.
